  • Red Velvet Cake
    • 1 oz. red food coloring liquid not gel
    • 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
    • 1 cup sour cream
    • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
    • 4 eggs
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 1 1/4 cups butter
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    • 1/2 cup cocoa powder unsweetened
    • 2 1/4 cups flour

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line pans with cupcake liners.
  • Step 2
    In a large bowl, sift flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt together.
  • Step 3
    In a stand mixer, beat butter and sugar for 2 minutes. Scrape down bowl and beat again.
  • Step 4
    On low, add eggs one at a time and add vanilla. Add sour cream.
  • Step 5
    Add dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt...) alternating while adding the milk. Stir in red food coloring.
  • Step 6
    Fill cupcake liners 2/3 full and bake for 17-22 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean. Let cool and frost with Cream Cheese Frosting recipe above.
